No matter what the weather says, it is fall time in Lake Winnipesaukee, which means for many families it is time to start taking in all of the fun activities that this time of year brings. Lake Winnipesaukee is known for its family-friendly activities especially during this time of year. Here is a list of family-friendly activities that are perfect for the fall and that can keep the whole family having a good time.
The falls is a wonderful time to get out and enjoy local food and handmade products. While there are different markets all over the Lake Winnipesaukee region, for a fun fall day, check out the Beans and Greens Farmstand in Gilford. It has plenty of fresh baked goods and locally made products, there is a deli and fresh produce as well as flowers for sale. Kids will love this farmstand, which is nestled in the base of the Belknap mountains, as there are animals, family-friendly events and even a corn maze on site.
There are a few different railroads that travel throughout the Lake Winnipesaukee region and that are popular attractions in the fall as they wind visitors in and out of the stunning fall foliage that this region is known for. These railroads are all special and unique but if you haven’t tried out the unique Hobo Railroad yet, then this fall is your chance. This railroad is based in Lincoln and offers a 1 hour and 20 minute train ride through New Hampshire. This excursion is not only a history lesson, but this vintage train will take you through a stunning wooded area and along the Pemigewasset River. The excursion also includes a “Hobo Picnic Lunch” or an ice cream sundae.
Who doesn’t love a corn maze in the fall? In the Lake Winnipesaukee area, there are plenty of corn mazes to choose from. One of the oldest and most unique is the Moulton Farm Corn Maze located in Moultonboro. There are two mazes on this farm—a full sized maze or a smaller version for little ones. It is a great way to spend the entire day with the family while enjoying the beautiful weather of this region.
Pumpkin Patches are a staple of the fall season and in Lake Winnipesaukee there is no shortage of pumpkin patches and local farms. If you are looking for something slightly different this year, there is the Prescott Farm Environmental Educational Center. This center will not only educate you on pumpkins but allow you to pick your own pumpkins from their large selection. They also have special offering such as the “Not So Ordinary” Pumpkin Patch that features rare hybrids and hard-to-find varieties of pumpkins.
Fall means Halloween, and in Lake Winnipesaukee, there is plenty to do when celebrating this spooky time of year. There is an annual Charity Haunted Halloween Hike and Hayride that is held in Tilton every year. The Shaker Village in Canterbury has trick-or-treating and ghost encounters the weekend before Halloween on Saturday October 28th, and the M/S Mount Washington hosts their popular Halloween Masquerade Ball to help get people in the spooky spirit.
With the fall season already here, there is no better time to get out and enjoy everything that Lake Winnipesaukee has to offer this time of year.
