Since this lake region has been around for so long, there is plenty of history in the area. However, aside from the numerous museums and historic sites, there are also plenty of community centers and programs throughout the region that were designed to help educate locals and visitors alike on a variety of subjects. Here are just a few of our favorite options for this summer.

Geneva Point Center

The Geneva Point Center has been part of the Lake Winnipesaukee community since 1919. As both a conference center for professionals and a summer camp center for children, there is always something for everyone at this massive outdoor campsite.

The center is home to historic buildings, forest trails, three beaches and more than 184 acres of beautiful scenery. All summer long there are educational programs at the center and you can host everything from community events, meetings, music and art events, weddings and family reunions on the properties. This is truly the hub of summer programs in the region.

Lake Winnipesaukee Sailing Association

If you have ever wanted to learn to sail, then the Lake Winnipesaukee Sailing Association is the place for you. This non-profit organization is designed for kids and adults, starting at age 7. Their motto is they can teach anyone age 7 to 99 how to sail—and they stick by it. With a nationally certified staff and programs that range from group classes to private lessons, there is something for everyone here.

Don’t care to sale but want to help support this great organization? They hold an annual lobster dinner to help raise money for the organization, you can volunteer your time or even donate your old boat.

The wildlife in the Lake Winnipesaukee region is among the most unique in the entire area. If you want to learn more about creatures such as the fish, frogs, mink and turtles that inhabit the region, then the Squam Lakes Natural Science Center is the place for you.

This center is perfect for family fun but is equally fun for adults, and the 90 minuite Squam Lake cruises are even a nice option to take a date. Enjoy trailside enclosures, hands-on interactive exhibits and educational programs and beautiful hiking trails for the entire family all summer long and .

The live animal exhibit trails is open May – October (paid admission), Kirkwood Gardens is open to the public and free of charge, cruises are first come first serve and reservations are highly recommended.

Prescott Farm Environmental Education Center

If you want to learn about the unique farming community that makes up the general Lake Winnipesaukee region, then this education center is for you. In addition to hosting programs for kids during the summer and partnering with local elementary schools, this educational center has plenty of camps and public programs designed to educate the community at large.

The Winnipesaukee Playhouse

Located in Meredith, this award winning theater is one of the most honored and recognized in the area. It hosts professional productions all summer long and on its beautiful 11 acre property, it also hosts summer camps, classes, community theater and youth theater productions and after-school programs.
